Too slow

Too slow to mask the gaze. It falls outside the rules, so the choice is made to observe. The necessary garments for the trip are packed, yet clean clothes are left behind. The mind is distracted by every echo of old laughter, and the mirror fails to reflect what deserves to endure.

The suit is adjusted so it doesn't match the face, ensuring the neighbor won't ask, yet again, how the trip went. Meanwhile, a soft echo recalls the liquor from those sunsets and the caviar scattered across the floor. A waiter presenting the bill, plates that no one will clear, and a taxi waiting, wanting to know a little more.

Now comes the time to spy, through the keyhole, through the window, or upon an imaginary pillow, on what might have been, but never can be.
